Two working mornings, one Arctic experience a day, everyone under one roof. This is the standard shape. The working blocks are yours to fill, and we adjust the rhythm to your flights, your season and how much meeting time you need.

Day 1 · Arrival

Ivalo is about ninety minutes by air from Helsinki, and Hotel Kuura is fifteen minutes from the runway, so your leadership team is out of the cold and by the fire within half an hour of landing. Kuura is our own fifteen-room hotel, run by our own people, with meeting space and a long table set up for the days ahead. With the buy-out, the whole house is yours. The first evening has no business programme, on purpose. A Nordic dinner, an early night. A leadership retreat in Finnish Lapland starts by letting the team arrive properly.

Day 2 · First working day

The first working day is a strategy day. After breakfast the team takes the meeting space for an uninterrupted morning: your agenda, your people, our set-up and coffee that never runs out. No colleague dropping by, no inbox that cannot wait until evening, no flight to catch at four. After lunch the group goes outside for the day's one experience: a quiet guided walk in the forest, or a walking workshop that takes a single question out of the room and onto the trail. Then sauna, dinner, and the conversation carries on by the fire.

Day 3 · Wilderness day

Day three is where leadership team development happens without anyone calling it that. The morning is a second working block, a leadership workshop or protected deep work, whichever your agenda needs. Then the whole group travels to Rahajärvi, our own wilderness camp on a forest lake: ice fishing or a seasonal nature experience, bushcraft, lunch cooked over the open fire, a tent sauna and, for the brave, a cold dip. Trust grows differently when the CFO and the newest director share a fire and a frozen lake. The evening follows the season: an aurora evening in winter, a midnight-sun dinner in summer, a fire evening in the autumn colours.

Day 4 · Departure

The last morning is what separates a leadership retreat from a pleasant trip. Before anyone packs, the team sits down for a structured reflection session: what was decided, which actions follow, who owns each one and by when. The board or management team leaves with agreed actions and personal commitments, not just a good feeling. Then check-out and the fifteen-minute transfer to Ivalo airport.

Every LEAD journey includes the essentials below, on one invoice. The price is per person for a group of 15 to 19; smaller groups are quoted a little higher. Signature and Prestige add to this list; the differences are under Prices.

Deep Focus

  • Blue-hour light: a few hours of twilight in December, full days again by March
  • Typically −5 to −20 °C, colder in cold spells; the house, the sauna and the fire do the rest

Prices

Three service levels. One journey.

Prices are per person for a group of 15 to 19 on the standard 3 nights / 4 days, with individual beds. Smaller groups pay a little more per person; groups of 20 or more, and longer or shorter stays, are quoted. Final pricing depends on dates and season, facilitation and partner availability.

Why LEAD?

Why not a conference hotel an hour from the office?

Most leadership offsites happen close to home, in a hotel with a good meeting room and a bar. The team works hard until five, then half of them drive home and the rest open their laptops. LEAD asks for a flight and gives back the one thing the nearby hotel cannot: distance. Nobody leaves early, nobody drops in, the light is long or dark in ways that change a conversation, and the group works, eats and sits by the fire in one house, hosted by our own Ivalo team. The cost of getting here is real. So is the difference in what the team brings back.

  • A day that is genuinely shared. The Rahajärvi day puts the CFO and the newest director at the same fire, on the same ice.

FAQ

Before you send the brief

How early should we book a journey?
Winter dates at Hotel Kuura are the most sought after and go first, so the earlier you write, the more choice you have. Spring, Midnight Sun and Ruska dates offer more room. If your dates are closer, send them anyway: we will tell you honestly what is possible, and it is often more than you expect.
What is included in the price?
Every LEAD journey includes three nights at Hotel Kuura with full board, meeting space for your group, a Xwander coordinator, the Rahajärvi wilderness day, sauna, a seasonal Arctic evening and private airport and programme transfers, on one invoice. Flights to Ivalo, alcohol beyond the agreed package, an external facilitator and travel insurance are separate. Signature adds a dedicated host.
What group size is LEAD priced for, and what if we are fewer?
LEAD is built for 8 to 19 people, one room and one table holding the whole conversation. Prices are per person for a group of 15 to 19; smaller groups pay a little more per person, as shown under Prices. A leadership group of 20 or more is scoped as a bespoke programme, so put your numbers in the brief.
Can we make it shorter or longer than four days?
Yes. Three nights and four days is the standard because two working mornings, a wilderness day at Rahajärvi and a closing reflection session fit inside it; the prices describe it. Other lengths are quoted on request: tell us the dates you have and how much meeting time you need, and we shape the days around them.
How do you handle last-minute weather changes?
Every outdoor moment has an indoor or sheltered alternative that is worth doing in its own right. We watch the Arctic weather continuously and rebuild the day's running order when conditions ask for it, so the agreed purpose of your journey is preserved, whichever version of the day you get.
How do we get to Ivalo?
Ivalo is about ninety minutes by air from Helsinki and fifteen minutes from Hotel Kuura; private airport transfers are included in every journey. If your group arrives via Rovaniemi, Levi or another Lapland airport instead, we quote a private transfer or an experience bus with activity stops along the way.
Is there real working time, or is it an activity trip?
Real working time. Two of the four days open with a protected block in the meeting space: a strategy session on day two, a leadership workshop or deep work on day three, then a structured reflection session on the final morning. One Arctic experience a day, not a full activity schedule; the evenings belong to the table and the fire.
Can we bring our own facilitator, or do you provide one?
Both. At Essential the sessions are run by you. Signature includes a facilitated leadership session, and at any level you can add a professional facilitator, an executive coach or a graphic recorder as an upgrade, quoted with the journey. Send us your agenda and we will suggest what fits it best.
How private is Hotel Kuura during our stay?
Hotel Kuura is our own fifteen-room hotel, so your meeting space is set up for the group and the days run on your rhythm. Other Xwander groups or guests may be in the house at the same time. LEAD Prestige takes the whole hotel for your team alone, with a private room for every guest.
