honeymoon editorial scene

The north gives romance more room.

A Lapland honeymoon should not feel like a package with flowers added at the end. It should feel calm, calm, calm: the right room, the right route, the right guide, the right evening kept open in case the sky begins to move.

Our advantage is geography. We are the only DMC based inside the Aurora Oval, working from Ivalo, Inari and Saariselka. Kakslauttanen and Apukka sit further south, with Aurora Village the Ivalo exception. Latitude does not guarantee the Northern Lights, but it changes the odds and the feeling.

We can thread a glass igloo night, a private chalet, an Inari culture day, a helicopter landing and a lake sauna into one custom itinerary. Winter brings aurora, snow and blue hour. Summer brings midnight sun, private water, forest air and evenings that refuse to end.

Two kinds of Arctic honeymoon

Aurora winter and midnight-sun summer.

Lapland is not only a winter honeymoon. We help couples choose the season that fits the story they want to remember.

  • honeymoon winter scene

    Winter

Snow, blue hour, frozen lakes and the chance of aurora above Ivalo and Inari. Winter is for couples who want deep quiet, private saunas, glass-roof nights and a route built around the darkest skies.

  • honeymoon spring scene

    Spring

Longer light and clean snow make spring gentler than mid-winter. It suits couples who want skiing, sauna, bright fell days and evenings that can still turn dark enough for one final aurora hunt.

  • honeymoon summer scene

    Summer

Midnight sun changes the tempo completely. Think private lakes, slow dinners, hiking, helicopter landings, warm sauna evenings, forest air and gold light at midnight, with no need to chase darkness.

  • honeymoon autumn scene

    Autumn

Ruska brings colour, cooler nights and the return of the Northern Lights from late August onward. Autumn is intimate, photographic and quieter than peak winter, with excellent conditions for couples who travel lightly.

The Sami traditionally recognise eight seasons in Lapland. For honeymoons, that matters: the right week changes the light, the privacy, the pace and the sky.

FAQ

The most usual questions

What couples and luxury travel advisors ask before booking a Lapland honeymoon.

When is the best time of year for a Lapland honeymoon?
Two strong windows. Late December through March gives the iconic snow-and-aurora honeymoon: glass igloos, frozen lakes, blue hour, private sauna evenings. Late June through August gives the midnight-sun version: lakeside dinners, helicopter days, forest air and gold light at midnight. Late August through October adds ruska colour and the return of aurora without peak-winter crowds.
Are you actually inside the Aurora Oval?
Yes. We are the only DMC based inside the Aurora Oval, working from Ivalo, Inari and Saariselkä. Kakslauttanen and Apukka sit further south; Aurora Village is the Ivalo exception. Latitude does not guarantee the Northern Lights — aurora is a natural phenomenon — but it materially improves the statistical odds and the visual quality compared to Rovaniemi-belt resorts.
Can we sleep under aurora in a glass igloo?
Yes — that is one of the most-requested honeymoon stays. We book glass igloos and glass-roof suites in Ivalo, Saariselkä and around Inari. Note: peak-aurora January-March glass-igloo inventory is committed many months ahead. For weddings booked under 6 months we propose chalet-with-aurora-deck alternatives that often deliver a better experience without the inventory pressure.
How private is a Xwander honeymoon really?
Privacy is the design constraint. Where the budget allows we book exclusive-use chalets and lodges — no other guests, private chef, private sauna, private aurora-watch deck. Helicopter and snowmobile transfers move you between sites without public touchpoints. Guides are NDA-trained and travel separately to the dining and sauna spaces.
What can we actually do besides watch aurora?
Honeymoon-standard daily menu: private snowmobile route to a wilderness sauna, husky-sled day with picnic, ice-fishing on a frozen lake, a Sami cultural visit in Inari, helicopter landing on a fell-top, private aurora-chase with hot drinks, and a Michelin-tier wilderness dinner. Summer swaps in canoe routes, midnight-sun helicopter flights, lake-swim and fell hiking.
What lead time do we need to book?
Peak-winter glass-igloo honeymoons (January-March) are typically locked 6 to 12 months ahead — top inventory is the constraint. Shoulder seasons (late November, April, October ruska) and summer midnight-sun honeymoons absorb shorter lead times of 8 to 14 weeks. For a true exclusive-use lodge we recommend 6 to 9 months regardless of season.
Can you handle the surprise honeymoon for a partner who does not know yet?
Yes. We can run all planning through one partner with full confidentiality on the other side, including discreet billing and a sealed itinerary delivered on arrival. The Ivalo arrival can be staged as a transfer to a generic resort, with the actual chalet or igloo revealed at the destination. Talk to us about exactly how surprise-proof you need it.
How do you handle weather risk for a tight 5-day honeymoon?
Every itinerary carries two contingency tracks pre-staged — one indoor-warm, one outdoor-mild. The Ivalo operating record is the most reliable winter weather footprint in northern Finland. Aurora is the only thing we cannot guarantee — but we design the days so the trip is a great honeymoon whether the sky cooperates on night one or night four.
